The Dance Festival 2017 was held at Makerere University Freedom Square on Saturday April 1st 2017. It was a big day for the Makerere University Department of Performing Arts and Film! The Festival attracted a lot of people!
The hosts for the Dance Festival was Abrams Tekya from Breakdance Project Uganda, and Mette Pedersen, who is teaching dance at Makerere University.
The highlight of this whole day of celebrating dance was the Dance Competition. Ten dance groups participated and competed under the following dance genres: Hiphop, jazz, contemporary and traditional dance. The judges looked out for the following parameters in the performances: creativity, musicality, performance quality and presentation.
Here are the winners of the Dance Competition:
The 1st prize of Uganda Shillings two million (2,000,000/=) went to Kyuka Outreach. They also received branded T-shirts: Open-day and dance Festival and Barclays Bank Limited.
We congratulate Kyuka Outreach for winning the Dance Competition!
The 2nd prize went to Vizurii received branded Open-day and dance Festival and branded Barclays Bank Limited and sports bags.
The 3rd prize went to Sosolya Undugu Dance Academy, who received received branded Open-day and dance Festival T-shirts and branded Barclays Bank Limited sports bag.
All the participants received certificates of participation.
